Second Avenue Hatch Connection

VICMAP

Project Description: The Second Avenue Hatch Connection project includes construction of a 500-ft accessible multi-use pathway between Central Avenue and Myrtle Street along the Second Avenue alley right-of-way. A new mid-block crossing is also proposed at Granelli Avenue with a raised speed table and curb line bulb-outs. The new pathway will provide a safe, ADA compliant route from a mid-point in the Arleta Park neighborhood, enhancing connectivity to Hatch Elementary School, downtown Half Moon Bay, and improving coastal access. The new pathway will replace an existing informal dirt path that becomes in in-accessible during winter months and improve bicycle and pedestrian safety. The city is considering other amenities including additional curb ramps, select frontage improvements, drainage, landscaping, low-level lighting, fencing upgrades and other compatible amenities. Project Status: Initial topographic, utility, and boundary surveying are complete. City staff will be commencing with public outreach and engagement in early 2026 to understand what kind of improvements are important for trail users, the immediate neighbors, and other potential stakeholders. We'd like to take feedback on the conceptual design and desired improvements to a future study session at City Council in the Spring of 2026. Our goal is to finalize plans, advertise the project and commence with construction in the summer of 2026.

Funding Source(s): The City of Half Moon Bay received a $702,000 grant from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority to support the design and construction of the project. The City has also allocated an additional $78,000 in matching funds for a total design and construction budget of $780,000.
