What is the Future Leaders Civic Academy?
The Future Leaders Civics Academy is a hands-on program that helps students discover their voice, build leadership skills, and learn how local government works behind the scenes. Through interactive activities, conversations with City leaders, and a mock City Council meeting, students gain real-world experience and learn how the City serves the community.
Who is this Program For?
This program is for incoming 9th–12th grade students in the 2025–2026 school year who live in or attend school in Half Moon Bay and are interested in leadership, civic engagement, or learning how their community works.
Time Commitment
The Future Leaders Civics Academy will take place during Spring 2026 in four weekly sessions on April 23 and 30, and May 7 and 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Further information will be shared with selected participants.
Focus on Skills, not Lectures
Through a series of engaging, hands-on activities, our Future Leader students will learn about City government, practice public speaking, build confidence, and take part in personal and professional development activities designed to prepare them for future academic, career, and leadership opportunities.
Application Process
Students can apply by filling out a short application form. The application helps us learn more about each student’s interests and why they want to participate. Applications are now open for the Spring 2026 program.
