Kids in the Kitchen: Hands-On Cooking for Kids (Ages 7-12)

Why this Matters
Cooking is more than following a recipe—it’s a life skill that builds confidence, independence, and curiosity.
When kids learn how to prepare simple meals and snacks, they begin to see themselves as capable. They’re more willing to try new foods because they helped make them. They learn patience, teamwork, and how to work safely in a kitchen. And they experience the pride of creating something real from start to finish.
Kids who cook are more connected to their food, more confident trying new flavors, and more likely to carry these skills with them into their teen and adult years.
This class isn’t about perfection—it’s about helping kids feel comfortable, curious, and confident in the kitchen.
Kids in the Kitchen - Parent FAQ
Who is this class for?
This class is designed for kids ages 7–12 who are curious about cooking or ready to build more confidence in the kitchen. No prior experience is needed. Beginners are absolutely welcome.
Does my child need to know how to cook already?
Not at all. We start with the basics and build from there. The goal is confidence—not perfection.
What kinds of foods will they make?
We focus on simple, kid-friendly recipes using real, whole-food ingredients. Kids will prepare a mix of snacks and easy meals while exploring fruits, vegetables, herbs, and new flavors in an approachable way.
What if my child is a picky eater?
That’s completely okay. There is no pressure to eat anything. Kids are encouraged to taste and explore at their own pace. Often, children are more willing to try new foods when they’ve helped prepare them.
Will my child use real kitchen tools?
Yes—safely and age-appropriately. We teach proper handling of tools and basic kitchen safety so kids feel capable and responsible.
Will they bring food home?
Depending on the recipe and time, kids may sample what we make during class and occasionally bring something home to share. (Details will be shared prior to each session.)
What skills will my child leave with?
More than just recipes. Kids leave with:
• Confidence following a recipe
• Basic knife and prep skills
• A willingness to try new foods
• A sense of independence and pride
• Excitement about cooking again at home
Why does cooking matter at this age?
Learning to cook builds independence, responsibility, and curiosity. It helps kids feel capable—and gives them real-life skills they’ll carry into their teen and adult years.
